Salary: £24766 pro rata per annum

Role Overview: The Lost Gardens of Heligan is well known for its creative, magical and immersive outdoor family events and the team are excited to be looking to recruit a new member of this team. This role requires someone with energy, boundless enthusiasm, creativity, a love of nature and leadership skills that inspire and organise a team. With attention to detail, great customer service and full of ideas, we hope to find a creative, highly organised and dynamic individual capable of assisting with the creation and delivery of our seasonal family events programme. This role will involve regular weekend, school holidays and winter evening work, delegated via a rota.

Principal purpose of role

  • To assist with the day-to-day core garden experience, with particular attention to our family audience to ensure world class delivery of an exciting and creative experience.T
  • To contribute to the planning, project management and delivery of events, maintaining the high standards that have been set and ensuring that each event is in keeping with the Heligan ethos, brand, and core values.
  • To assist with the research, cost, and development of Heligan events working collaboratively with other departments.
  • To contribute to the recruitment and supervision of the team of Seasonal Event Stewards.
  • Provide support to other projects within the Garden Experience Department. This could include exhibitions, temporary displays, signage, and interpretation.

Area of responsibility and tasks

  • To assist with the organisation and the logistics of events, ordering adequate materials and resourcing staff to ensure smooth delivery and running of events.
  • To work to and manage set budgets under the supervision of the Family events manager and the Head of Garden Experience.
  • To assist with the development the ‘family experience’ at Heligan beyond seasonal events and help to develop ideas and experiences that will engage families at all times of year.
  • With the family events manager, lead and support our daily seasonal stewarding team, with efficient and effective communication skills in a friendly, inspiring manner.
  • Help to organise and programme the timely recruitment of seasonal event stewards and contractors to adequately deliver the planned additional events, as directed by the Head of Garden Experience.
  • When standing in for the family events manager, work closely with the Duty Manager, to ensure health and safety procedures and risk assessments relating to visitors, staff and materials are observed and adhered to.
  • Be a point of contact for any visitor feedback
  • To have a clear understanding of equal opportunities, and access related regulations. To help develop and plan accessible experiences that can be enjoyed by everyone in an inclusive manner.

  • A flair for creativity and the ability to think outside the box and problem solve, planning events that respond to requirements of different audiences.
  • A friendly approach to Customer Service, understanding the importance of a visitor’s first impression.
  • A ‘can-do’ attitude, always managing to provide creative solutions to any challenges.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, forming and maintaining good relationships with other departments.
  • Ability to work under pressure during busy periods and to confidently supervise a team of seasonal event stewards when standing in for the Garden Experience Supervisor.
  • Confident in dealing with unforeseen circumstances, first aid incidents or serious incidents.
  • A positive attitude to continuous learning and to keeping in touch with all of Heligan’s departments, projects and passions, so to represent Heligan clearly and accurately through innovative and inspired creative ideas, that continuously set us apart from other attractions.
  • To be active and to enjoy working outside in all seasons, with animals, nature, and people.
  • To have a passion for nature, environment, people, and stories.
