The Lost Gardens named ‘Garden of the Year 2013’!
8th April 2013
This weekend saw the Cornwall Garden Society’s annual Spring Flower Show at the magnificent Boconnoc Estate near Lostwithiel.
Although this year we weren’t formally represented with a show garden, the Gardening Team worked really hard in entering the Competitive Show Classes.
Productive Gardener Connie attended the show on Sunday to collect the ‘Hodgson Challenge Cup’ on behalf of Heligan for most points in Potted Plants.
The Heligan Gardening Teams really did us proud and came back to the gardens with a large collection of awards.
1st place 3 herbaceous perennials
1st place Hosta 3 leaves
1st place Primula
1st place Iris 3 stems
1st place Tulips
1st place Pelargonium
1st place Any flowering pot plant novice
2nd place Pot Plants
3rd place 3 herbaceous perennials
3rd place herbaceous perennials
3rd place Pot Plants
A massive congratulations to all involved in achieving such success, in what was for most of the team, their first year in competing.
The Heligan success didn’t stop there though, earlier in the year we were delighted to be nominated for the ‘Garden of the Year’ award by Cornwall Today & The Cornwall Garden Society!
Thanks to those of you with Facebook or Twitter who voted for Heligan, we have been officially been crowned as the ‘Garden of the Year’!
It is always great to receive an accolade that is given through a public vote and heart-warming to know that 21 years after opening to the public, Heligan remains a favourite in the hearts and minds of garden lovers.
