It’s the season of giving . . .

This Christmas, The Lost Gardens of Heligan have been spreading the festive cheer with three special deliveries to the local community.

Thursday saw the Heligan Estate Team gift two large home-grown Heligan turkeys to the St Austell Food Kitchen; to assist them in providing lovely Christmas dinners for the vulnerable, needy and homeless within our community.

Monday brought with it an incredible hand-crafted Gingerbread House from the Heligan Bakery. The Bakery Team wanted to surprise the children at Little Harbour with a festive treat that they could all enjoy. The impressive one meter wide gingerbread creation was dripping with icing and candy and generated big smiles and wide eyes on arrival at the hospice.

“We were delighted to receive the gingerbread village from the talented bakers at Heligan; the children and families staying with us are very much looking forward to enjoying it and it is a great talking point in our Little Harbour dining room. Thank you to the team at Heligan for their generosity in supporting CHSW and helping us to create magical memories for the children staying with us over the festive period.” – Claire Frost, Children’s Hospice South West.

Last but not least, on Tuesday the Heligan Reception Team created Christmas boxes, full of all the items one would need for a perfect Christmas dinner. These are collected by Cornwall Christmas Box, a great local charity who works with Cornwall Council in giving out the boxes to vulnerable and impoverished families throughout Cornwall.

Once again, on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day The Lost Gardens will open its gates in aid of local charities. No garden admission is charged and visitors are instead invited to make a donation to the year’s nominated charities. This festive tradition, which has been happening for over 20 years, has become a lovely local event which brings the community together, whilst giving everyone the opportunity to give to those less fortunate than themselves. This year, Heligan’s chosen charities are Cornwall Air Ambulance, Cornwall Blood Bikes, Beth’s Inspiration and People & Gardens.

We look forward to seeing you this Christmas and spreading the festive cheer.
