About Emma Gunn

River Cottage’s coastal expert forager Emma Gunn is returning to Heligan!

A bit of background on her… Emma has a rich tapestry of horticultural expertise under her belt, from her foundational studies in garden design to her 22 years working at the Eden Project, she immersed herself in the world of plants and design. From drawing Eden’s original exhibit plans, creating show gardens, floristry, house plants, lecturing in higher education on plant use and design and of course foraging, she has a passion for sharing knowledge and nurturing the next generation of plant enthusiasts.

At the age of 11, her dream was to become an herbalist and a few years later she discovered the world of foraging. This has always been in her blood – her Great Grandmother would ask her Dad to go and pick sorrel and marsh samphire for pickling. She grew up in different countries from Canada to Singapore, but Cornwall was always her home and moved here in 1998 to join the Eden Project.

Emma's passion for foraging is truly inspiring. By sharing her knowledge and recipes, she not only introduces people to new flavours but also encourages them to connect with their surroundings in a meaningful way.

Her aim to get people hooked on foraging speaks to a deeper appreciation for the natural world and the abundance it offers. Through her guidance and encouragement, she's empowering others to explore their local environments, discover hidden culinary delights, and foster a deeper connection to the land and sea.

Emma's commitment to sharing her expertise and spreading enthusiasm for foraging underscores her role as both a teacher and a steward of the environment. It's wonderful to see someone so dedicated to enriching others' lives through the exploration of nature's bounty.
