Gorran Cricket Club Grow with Heligan
- 13th Jul 2023
The ancient rhododendrons of The Lost Gardens of Heligan recently provided a practice ground with a difference for the junior cricket team of neighbouring Gorran.
The enthusiastic group of local youngsters donned their striking new Heligan sponsored kits and took to Flora’s Green to practice the sport which they are clearly very passionate about.
Steve Bodfish of Gorran Cricket Club said, “We loved our practice session at Heligan and would really like to thank the Heligan Team once again for their support and sponsorship.
Our young cricketers and coaches really appreciate their great new shirts and wear them with pride.”
With talented players from the ages of 5 to 11 years old, Flora’s Green saw sixes a plenty and the familiar calls of “howzat”.
Alex Smit, director of The Lost Gardens of Heligan said “The communities that surround our boundaries here at Heligan, have always played a huge part in our journey. From commemorating those who played a role in the history of the estate, to those only now stepping out for their maiden innings. The team at Heligan are enormously proud to play a small part in supporting brilliantly important community resources like Gorran Cricket club.”
Will we see a future Ben Stokes or Heather Knight climb the ladder to the national team with them recalling their practice session at the iconic gardens? Only time, and lots of practice, will tell.
