Heligan Beaver Update

  • 17th May 2024

We are sad to report the recent discovery of beaver remains within our 22-acre Eurasian beaver enclosure.

Following expert advice from the Beaver Trust, our robust fences have been checked and we can confirm that there are no signs of any escapes or evidence of beavers further downstream.

As beavers are used to spending time on their own before pairing up, our remaining beaver will be perfectly content on its own.

We will continue monitoring the enclosure to see if the remaining beaver is a female before exploring our next steps with our beaver project.

In the meantime, we hope our remaining beaver will continue to enhance biodiversity through building dams, and creating important habitat features.
