- 22nd Jul 2015
The Lost Gardens of Heligan welcomed Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall yesterday as they explored the Victorian gardens and estate in Heligan’s 25th year since rediscovery.
HRH The Prince of Wales joined Head of Gardens and Estate Iain Davies and Jungle Supervisor Cindy Maddison, to explore Heligan’s sub-tropical Jungle where the Prince crossed one of the longest rope bridges in the country across Heligan’s Jungle lakes and giant tree ferns.
HRH The Duchess of Cornwall joined Sir Tim Smit and Productive Gardens Supervisor, Nicola Bradley in the heart of the Productive Gardens to enjoy some of the diversity that Heligan has to offer.
“We were delighted to be able to welcome Their Royal Highnesses to Heligan. They were both very enthusiastic about the countryside and rural employment and were very interested to hear about our horticultural apprenticeships. It really was a most enjoyable visit and we hope that we can welcome them back to the gardens again in the future.” – George Elworthy, Heligan Managing Director.
Following their garden tour, The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall reunited to attend a reception with staff past and present along with a number of supporters to mark the 25th anniversary of the restoration of the gardens since they were rediscovered by Sir Tim Smit and John Nelson in 1990.
