B Corp Movement

Business as a force for good

We’re striving towards a vision of a world where everyone understands their connection with nature. We are a 200-acre historic estate and heritage garden, and we believe our relationship with nature should be regenerative and harmonious.

This approach informs how we manage land, care for our gardens, support our teams and local communities to thrive and grow, as well as creating beautiful spaces and special memories for our visitors.

As we do this, we want to continually improve our environmental impact across our site and in our practices, and commit to supporting all our people as we go on this journey.

The B Corp community

The B Corp movement is a community of over 4,000 businesses across 75 countries that are committed to using business as a force for good and balancing purpose with profit. The B Corp vision is that companies will one day not only become the best in the world at what they do, but also be the best for the world.

Heligan has been a certified B Corp since 2024 scoring 91.3 points. You can read our full report here.

Before then we have supported the B Corp community by holding B Lab events and where we can, we aim to partner with other B Corp businesses and organisations.

Heligan achieved an overall B Impact score of 91.3, which exceeds the average of other B Corps in the UK, within the tourism sector and for a business of its size. Heligan is proud to become one of almost 9,000 B Corps around the world.

Key initiatives that have supported Heligan in achieving the milestone certification include:

  • Heligan has recently introduced glow-worms and water voles to the estate, alongside a beaver re-introduction project, helping to provide a home to rare native species and increase biodiversity, as well as educate visitors on the importance of conservation.
  • Established in 2022, Heligan is home to a Cub and Scout Group enabling children in the community to explore the rich and diverse estate while nurturing strong leadership skills and a thirst for knowledge and adventure.
  • Heligan is moving towards ‘zero to landfill’ and reducing carbon footprint by building a robust waste management process.
  • With a permanent staff team of over 100 local people, Heligan pays the living wage with zero gender pay gap and employment is offered to a diverse group of people.
  • Heligan prioritises inclusivity for all, offering relaxed sessions of its creative events programme, as well as an annual chosen charity scheme that raises funds and awareness for local charities within the community.
  • Heligan works with several universities and statutory bodies to deliver research projects around regenerative grazing, growing practices and soil health.

"Heligan is rightly proud to have become a B Corp. The intense concentration on how we can work and live better by being mindful to the overall wellbeing of everything is a foundational step to a new way of being and doing business. One day we will look back in amazement at these early tentative first steps and wonder at why everybody didn’t see the future coming." Sir Tim Smit
